“God will bring people and events into our lives, and whatever we may think about them, they are designed for the evolution of His life in us.” ― Thomas Keating, Trappist Monk

I came across this quotation the other day, and it summarizes so succinctly a truth I have made peace with (most days), especially pertaining to the hard stuff of life.  

People will challenge you, hurt you, let you down…including ourselves. Things will happen that we never asked for, wanted, or anticipated. Yet for each struggle we go through we learn something. And each bit of newfound knowledge carves out in us a deeper sense of empathy, a wisdom to see a broader perspective, and a sense of mercy for others who may have not yet traveled this part.  

In other words, the difficulties of life stand to make us more compassionate, more forgiving, more loving... and that sure sounds like evolutionary work to me, aligning us all the more with the Great Love of the universe.
